One of the confirmed front-runners in Saturday's Durban July is the three-year-old Dave The King.
Mike de Kock, who saddled winner Sparkling Water 12 months ago, will have high hopes for Dave The King in the 2023 Durban July. De Kock's colt has been mixing it with the best three-year-olds in South Africa all season, and was only passed by See It Again when attempting to make all in the Daily News 2000 last time out.
See It Again will have to give Dave The King two kilos in weight when the two reoppose this weekend. Former Champion Apprentice jockey in South Africa, Craig Zackey will take the ride in the Durban July, and he described his mount as the "dark horse" in the contest during the build-up.
Dave The King will wear the number 10 saddle cloth, having been drawn in stall 10 when the draw was made. Zackey will wear the white and blue silks of owners Messrs L M Nestadt & G J Player & Ralphs Racing (Pty) Ltd.
