Safe Passage has risen to fourth in the official log for the 2022 Durban July, following an impressive victory in the Daily News 2000.
Mike de Kock's three-year-old saw off favourite Pomp And Power by two lengths in this key trial for the Durban July. Aragosta jumped up to sixth in the log after finishing third at Greyville. Fourth-placed Waterberry Lane leaped into the top 20, and could take his chance in South Africa's most famous handicap.
Prior to the Daily News 2000, two leading contenders were scratched from the 2022 Durban July.
On Thursday, Fillies' Classic winner Rain In Holland was pulled out of the race by Sean Tarry. 24 hours later, Justin Snaith scratched last year's Cape Guineas winner Double Superlative, despite decent efforts in both the Cape Town Met and the Cape Derby this season.
