The eyes of the racing world were fixed on Greyville this afternoon, as the 2020 Durban July was played out behind closed doors.
Do It Again was bidding to become the first horse in the illustrious history of this race to win it three years in a row. However, the two-time defending champion was friendless in the build-up, drifting right out to 11.0 before the off.
Sean Tarry's first-string, Belgarion had sat happily atop the betting for much of the build-up to the 2020 Durban July. Yet, it was last year's runner-up, Rainbow Bridge who was punted off the boards in the hour before the off, and Erik Sands' five-year-old went off as the 4.5 favourite.
Another money horse on the day of the Durban July was Bunker Hunt, who was backed into a single-figure price. Along with Do It Again, Vardy attracted little support during the morning, with Soqrat also drifting noticably as the started sent the field on their way.

Vardy broke very slowly, as did Bunker Hunt. Do It Again and Belgarion got off to good starts, and were immediately dragged over to the near rail from their wide draws.
As expect, Silvano's Pride made the running, and was leading by a good eight lengths at the 1200 mark. That gap steadily eroded around the bend, and the pacemaker was swallowed up by the pack as the field turned for home.
Rainbow Bridge was positioned perfectly on the rail, and was the first to make his move. Surprisingly, though, the well-backed favourite didn't find much when he hit the front, and a gang of runners took over on the near side rail.
Got The Greenlight looked to be mounting a winning challenge, as did the history-making Do It Again. But it was Belgarion who came home strongest of all, powering between his rivals to eventually score a three-quarter length success.
Got The Greenlight claimed second ahead of Do It Again. Golden Ducat won the head-bob for fourth with It's My Turn, and Rainbow Bridge trailed home a disappointing sixth.
