A quality card at Turffontein on Saturday is headlined by the Premier's Champions Challenge. This Grade One is run over a 10-furlong trip, and horses who impress often go on to contest the Durban July at Greyville.

Here's the latest betting for the 2026 Premier's Champions Challenge, and a look through the entries.

See It Again has enjoyed a fantastic resurgence since joining Justin Snaith. Craig Zackey's mount finished third in the King's Plate on his stable debut, before a thrilling victory in the Sun Met and a runner-up effort in the Horse Chestnut Stakes.

Two three-year-olds sit behind See It Again at the head of the market. Grand Empire narrowly got the better of Trust when the two met in the SA Classic and the two will renew rivalries at Turffontein on Saturday.

Fire Attack returns to defend his Premier's Champions Challenge crown, on the back of a fine fourth-placed effort in the Horse Chestnut Stakes. Richie Fourie rides Justin Snaith's second-string Okavango, following his triumph in the Listed King’s Cup.

Royal Victory will attempt to win this Grade One for a second time. Tony Peter will saddle both The Ultimate King and The Equator. Madison Valley, Olivia's Way and Atticus Finch complete the field.

2026 Premier's Champions Challenge Tips

Stepping back up to ten furlongs is sure to suit See It Again, and Justin Snaith's star is worthy of his short price. However, the favourite - and the other older horses in the race - will have to give a chunk of weight to the two three-year-olds, and I'm going to back GRAND EMPIRE (4.55) at a more appealing price.

Sean Tarry's three-year-old took the handicap route into the Classics, winning two valuable contests here at Turffontein in the winter. Grand Empire went into the Gauteng Guineas on the back of a runner-up effort in the Wolf Power 1600, and ran a screamer to push Slighttheeights all the way to the line in that Grade Two.

Both Grand Empire and Trust benefited from a wildly unsustainable pace set in the recent SA Classic. Craig Zackey's mount edged ahead of Trust at the three-furling pole, as the chasing pack bridged the gap with the leaders. Trust battled back bravely, but it was Grand Empire who won that Grade One by a nose on the line.

Zackey will be in the saddle of See It Again this time around, meaning Ryan Munger gets the chance to ride Grand Empire. Munger has plenty of experience riding in big races - both here in South Africa and from his time in Canada - and Grand Empire is capable of another step forward on Saturday feature.

Verdict

Grand Empire is our selection in the 2026 Premier's Champions Challenge.
