The second leg of South Africa's triple crown takes place at the end of January, as a classy field gathers at Kenilworth for the Cape Town Met. 12 of South Africa's top flat racers have been confirmed for this historic race and the betting is currently dominated by a two-time Grade One winner.

2024 Cape Town Met Runners
See It Again is the overwhelming favourite to bounce back in the Cape Town Met. Having beaten his rival in the Green Point on his previous start, Michael Roberts' star finished second to the hugely impressive Charles Dickens in the King's Plate earlier this month. With Charles Dickens missing from the field, See It Again is long odds-on to record a third Grade One success.
Royal Aussie, who finished a good third in the King's Plate, returns for another crack at See It Again. As do Al Muthana, Montein, Double Superlative and Anfields Rocket, who placed fourth, fifth, sixth and eighth in the first leg of the South African Triple Crown.
Sitting closest to See It Again in the market is last year's WSB 1900 winner Pacaya, who steps back up in distance after a narrow defeat in the Supert Wine Premier Trophy. Bless My Stars, who's finished third in both the Durban July and the recent Summer Cup, also sits at a single-figure price in the market.
Mucho Dinero, who took down Pacaya in the Premier Trophy, can be backed at 16/1 with Hollywoodbets. Sugar Mountain, Without Question, Waterberry Lane and Rascallion, who finished down the field in the Rupert Wine, have also taken up their Cape Town Met entries.
2024 Cape Town Met Tips
The King's Plate was billed as a straight fight between SEE IT AGAIN (1/3) and Charles Dickens, and that turned out to be right. I backed Charles Dickens against the favourite on that occasion and Aldo Domeyer's mount ran out a superb winner.
See It Again was positioned a little closer to the pace than Charles Dickens, and couldn't match the winner for finishing speed in the closing stages. Stepping up in trip will certainly suit See It Again, who won the Cape Derby and the Daily News 2000 over this distance last season and the favourite hasn't got Charles Dickens to fend off this time around.
I'm expecting See It Again to run out a comfortable winner on Saturday. On seasonal form and merit ratings, the favourite is miles clear of this field. That being said, there is some each-way value to be found further down the betting and SUGAR MOUNTAIN (40/1) - same connections as Charles Dickens - could be worth chancing at a lengthy price.
Candice Bass-Robinson's colt finished a very close fourth in the Rupert Wine Trophy, run on King's Plate day over a nine-furlong trip. With Baratheon cutting out a fairly sedate pace, Aldo Domeyer pushed Sugar Mountain to the front at the halfway stage and Bass Robinson's rising star saw out the trip well, finishing less than a length behind the fast-finishing Mucho Dinero.
A further step up in trip should suit this five-year-old son of Silvano, who'll be having his fifth start of the season already. Based on that run in the Rupert Wine, Sugar Mountain shouldn't be one of the market back-markers.

See It Again should win Saturday's feature. We're also backing Sugar Mountain at an each-way price.
