My Best Score and Musical Score supplemented for Durban July

My Best Shot, trained by Alan Greeff, and Musical Score, under the guidance of Lucky Houdalakis, have officially joined the race, adding further intrigue to South Africa’s most celebrated horse racing event.

My Best Shot has made history this season, becoming the first horse to win the local ‘Triple Crown’ and bank a R250 000 bonus in the process.

The Nelson Mandela Bay Racing Sophomore Challenge is a challenging series for three-year-olds, which includes the 1400m Ibhayi Stakes, the 1600m East Cape Guineas, and culminates in the WSB East Cape Derby, which was run over 2400m.

Greef's three-year-old justified short prices by winning the first two legs of this series at the start of the year. My Best Shot romped to a five-and-a-half length victory in the East Cape Derby earlier this month and the prize money earned for his five victories on the bounce more than covered the Durban July supplementary fee.

Musical Score, a three-year-old son of Oratorio, has also booked his place in the Durban July lineup after back-to-back victories. 

Lucky Houdalakis' gelding is yet to race over further than a mile, and was even dropped down to six furlongs in March. However, Musical Score ran on well to score over eight-furlongs  in April, and was last seen scoring in a Pinnacle Stakes at the testing Turffontein track. 

Along with the two supplementary entries, 49 horses remain in the running for the 2025 Durban July. Eight On Eighteen keeps his place at the head of the betting, which can be found here on our website.
